Japanese Hip Hop! Alright!

I’ve been living in Japan for one week now and I thought I’d share with you some of the delights I have encountered so far. Hip Hop in Japan like most things that come from America here has a huge following. The Hip Hop out of US by the likes of Kanye West, Jay Z, Lupe Fiasco, and the up and coming Kristof Krane are on high rotation in main stream clubs around Japan. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve heard the Black Eyed Peas “I Got a Feeling” (Oh how much they have changed!). So I thought I’d bring up some examples of some Japanese underground Hip Hop as break from the mass of imported stuff that get played here.

This album is from the Powershuvel audio website. The theme is an imaginary film and this is the sound track to that film. What type of film would it be? More information and get the album here.

I haven’t seen a review on here yet of Kristoff Krane’s new double-disc release:
    Hunting for Father
    and
    Picking Flowers Next to Roadkill

Can someone tell us how the new jams are?

    Crazy stuff!

Props to Kris! That’d be dope if SM/KK are getting love from across the ocean.

I actually may have had something to do with that. I gave a copy of the CD to a fairly influential fashion designer (who happens to currently work for (Miyake Issei) and he loves hip-hop. It’s a long story, but my buddy produced that album so he gave me a copy. Big Ups to Minnesota Hip-Hop and Kristoff Krane!

Rhys, i want to thank you for the exposure.

I’m one half of Strange Matter and it’s crazy fresh that y’all are showing us and Kristoff some love in Japan. If you want a full copy of the album get at me. If you’re spreading the word and helping us out, i’m more than game to toss you the joint and anything else for free.

    Thanks again!

Hey Aut, no dramas! I’m just happy to play good music! I had a DJ/VJ event here last night in my studio and played some cool tracks including Kristoff’s and they all went down well. I’d love a full copy of the album… thanks for offering! I’ll email you my addy. I’m digging your label too Strange Matter keep up the fresh beats.
